5 Room HDB renovation at Jalan Tenteram: Part 2 – Day 2 – Hacking

Partial renovation is always much more difficult than full renovation. Because of the hassle involved, some Interior Designers actually avoid such jobs. In this post, you will be able to see all the extra works done by the Interior Designer that you do not see very often.

  • Protect remaining fixtures: A lot of work is needed just to protect those fixtures that the homeowner wishes to keep. Large quantity of protective accessories like bubble wraps, plastic bags, protective sheets and masking tape are needed to prevent accidental damages. Some Interior Designers actually charge homeowners for all the extra protective works and materials.
  • More supervision work: More communication is needed between the Interior Designer and the workers. Just imagine that after telling the electricians which old fixtures to remain, he will need to communicate the same things to other workers (plumbers, carpenters, painters, etc) as well. It also means that the Interior Designer will need to make more frequent site visits.
  • Anticipate more possible problems and think of solutions: Partial renovation is not as straightforward as compared to full renovation. There are many unexpected problems and issues which you will not see in new or full renovation situation. Only experience and detailed Interior Designer is able to foresee and handle them.
