Its been a month now since the renovation started for this Bayshore Park condominium. Due to the huge size of the apartment and the massive amount of work, the wet work needs more time than most apartment in Singapore. The tiling work is on schedule and should be completed on my next post. During this wet work period, the tilers need to build up many parts of the walls using bricks and tile up the wall and floor area.
Living room and other general areas
At this point in time, there are still some parts of the apartment which I cannot really identify the rooms or specific areas because of the size.
Those wirings hanging in the ceilings are for the down lights. The wires need to be laid before the installation of the false ceiling. The metal strips hanging in the ceiling will be used to support the false ceiling.

Something interesting
The above pictures show large amount of rock wool being used in this project. The purpose of these high quality fire resistant and sound absorbency rock wool is to sound proof the partition walls. Most of the “dry” areas like the living hall and rooms walls are built up by partition. Therefore, these rock wool are necessary for privacy purposes. These rock wool does not rot, promote mildew, fungi, or bacteria, or sustain vermin and they are made from natural and recycled materials.
You might ask why are some walls built using bricks while some uses partitions. Isn’t bricks better than partitions? There are 2 main reason why partitions are used:
- There are maximum amount of weight the structure of the building can take. Therefore, in order to solve the weight load issue, light materials are used instead of the heavy bricks.
- Using the gypsum partitions and rock wool instead of bricks also help to reduce some cost which can be put to better used for other parts of the renovation.
Why can’t we use gypsum partitions for all areas then? The reason is because of water resistant issue. Bathrooms and kitchen are wet areas which come in contact with water frequently. Therefore, bricks MUST be used for these areas.
The above white boards are to be used as false ceiling when all the wiring are ready.
This is the brand new rubbish chute to replace the old one.
For condominiums and landed properties, all wires are concealed unlike HDB flats.
